Well, here we go. The GT journey started for me back in April at a sunny Donny and has since taken me into bleary sessions in front of live timing websites, early morning Channel 4 broadcasts and a superb visit to Silverstone.
But now, it's time for the championship decider. My first trip to 'The Rock'; the last race of the 2007 season.
With Rollcentre taking a well-earned rest after a hectic Silverstone session earlier in the month, it's down to Eclipse to put on a show at Rockingham. Never mind the Brit GT debut of the Apex Jaguar XKR or the down-to-the-wire driver championship! We want Mosler action!
So, go get some, courtesy of Tommi2000 on youtube:
With the Cole brothers still absent, the Eclipse Mosler is piloted by two familiar faces. Oliver Bryant gets to try out his third GT car of the season after previous stints with a Porsche and an Ascari. He was joined by ex-F3 driver Stuart Hall.
The Eclipse car was fastest in the second free practice session as the track started to dry out after earlier rain. Fourth on the grid was bagged, with the flying Lambo of Team Modena taking pole.
So, the scene was set again - fast running in free practice, qualifying close to the top of the grid.
Can you guess what happens next?
Running in fourth, a tap by Greenhalgh's Ascari as they entered Brook took the Mosler into a spin, through the tyres and into the gravel.
Restarting down the field after a trip out by the safety car, the Mosler was eventually handed over to Stuart Hall.... who, on the final lap, buried it into the wall on Turn One after a mechanical failure.
Here endeth the season :(
At least Team RPM had plenty to smile (and hug, and dance) about as Bradley Ellis and Alex Mortimer took the championship win after two sterling first places over the weekend. Congrats to them!
