BRITISH GT: Thruxton 25th-26th August 2007

With the end of the season approaching rapidly, the teams head off down south to perhaps the fastest lapping circuit of the season at Thruxton.

The Moslers are well set to benefit from the sweeping curves and fast straights of the Hampshire course. Unfortunately, there was no chance to see them in action.

Rollcentre Racing weren't entered for this round; the Cole brothers for Eclipse withdrew a few days before.

Barwell Motorsport's Astons took top honours in both of the weekend's races, Cocker and Drayson taking race one in the bio-fuelled car before Harrington and de Zille Butler drove to victory in race two.

With two other podium finishes and a pole position, it was another impressive weekend for Barwell. And, just because there's no Moslers to show, here's a pic of one of those winning Astons (from the-paddock.net)

DUTCH SUPERCAR CHALLENGE: Rizla Racing Days, Assen 12th August 2007

The first of two trips to Assen within a month saw both DSC Mosler teams in action.
Harry Mecke was looking good in the free practice sessions; third fastest in the first session, six fastest in the second.

Race one didn't work out to well for Mecke, though: the car was retired after 21 laps. Meanwhile, the Woodcocks were turning on the pressure and brought the silver Mosler home in third place, their first podium finish of the season.

Race two saw both Moslers challenging the front runners. Harry Mecke managed fifth, whilst the Woodcocks again took third place to make it a double podium race day.

DUTCH SUPERCAR CHALLENGE: Oschersleben 15th August 2007

My DSC reports are a little hit and miss, I'm afraid; I like to check details against various sites but the official one is the only source of info that I can find. And I don't read Dutch :(

I've worked out, though, that Harry Mecke raced at Oschersleben; fastest in free practice, but he and Roland Renfeld failed to finish race two.

BRITISH GT: Silverstone 12th August 2007: Race

The Moslers looked ready to fight for podium places after a promising qualifying day on Saturday.

Qualifying in fourth, Rollcentre seemed to be well placed to challenge for the lead. But after spinning on the second lap, it became clear that Kevin Riley was having problems with the car.

Soon he was down to 24th. Into the pits he came, where the team found that a sticking throttle when downshifting had been the culprit. The problem was fixed, but the damage was done. Despite putting in some great lap times, it was too far to fight back from and Rollcentre finished in 14th place.

The Cole brothers had a quieter race, finishing back in 19th.

BRITISH GT: Silverstone 11th August 2007: Qualifying

A special post, this; the second Brit GT race I've been to and the first with a video camera.

Decided to treat my Dad and so we got tickets to the Saturday qualifying session and stopped in a hospitality suite run by Classic Dreams.

It's run by Matt Twynham who made us feel very welcome. He's got a real enthusiasm for motor sport and he was great to have a chat with in between the races (and the endless cups of tea!)

The suite looks out over the pit straight and the pit lane entry: you get a great view and - when the Vipers pit in - you feel the balcony vibrate!

Our first trip to Silverstone and - wow! We got to park right outside the suite, so no yomping in from the outer car park. As we arrived just on eight o'clock, the place was really quiet - it's really strange to look out over the thousands of seats in the grandstands and only be able to hear birds singing.

But all that soon changed - GT free practice started at nine. Looking out over the balcony with blue skies and a warm breeze, we soon got to experience the sheer fun of GT cars passing just beneath you at full pelt.

With no other hospitality suites open that day, we had the free run of the balcony, so I was soon up and down like a fiddler's elbow to get some more video footage. Here are the Moslers exiting Woodcote and into the pit straight:

And here they are coming into the pits - the suite is right above the point where the pit lane speed limit kicks in, so we were treated to a number of GT cars braking from 100mph plus down to 30 in a very short space.... some were certainly doing *slightly* more than the limit when they crossed that line :)

Later in the afternoon, we crossed over to try out the grandstand opposite the suite. There were great views as the cars swept through Woodcote corner and powered into the start/finish straight:

All in all, a fantastic day: great weather, wonderful hospitality by Matt (we'll certainly be back), really impressed by Silverstone - decent food, really helpful staff and lots of clean toilets - Donington, take note!

And the Moslers didn't do too bad - Riley and Flux took the fastest lap in practice and qualified 4th; the Coles qualified 8th.
